The Foks & Folks Studio Story: Where Frustration Met Purpose
“I almost gave up on my dream because no one understood my vision—until I became the solution I needed.”
My name is Karanja Ayub, an architect by training and a brand strategist by necessity.
Like many entrepreneurs in Nairobi—Kenya’s beating heart of innovation—I started with a dream: to build a small architectural firm that reflected my creativity and precision. But before I could even lay the first brick, I hit an unexpected roadblock—branding.
I approached agencies that promised to help me craft an identity, but none could bridge the gap between strategy and execution. The logos were nice, the colors were pretty, but nothing felt like me—nothing captured the essence of what I wanted my business to stand for.
Frustrated but determined, I took matters into my own hands. I immersed myself in brand development, learning everything from storytelling to visual identity. And in that process, something unexpected happened—I fell in love with branding.

What started as a personal struggle revealed a bigger problem: so many businesses—especially in Nairobi’s fast-moving market—were being let down by superficial branding.
